Parquetry & Herringbone Installation in Melbourne

Few floors make a room like a herringbone or chevron parquetry floor — and few are as unforgiving to lay. At Iconic Flooring we install parquetry across Melbourne, setting out the pattern precisely and then sanding and finishing on site for a flat, seamless result that's the centrepiece of the room.

Patterns We Install

  • Herringbone — the classic interlocking zig-zag.
  • Chevron — angled blocks meeting in continuous V-shapes.
  • Mosaic / finger block and decorative Versailles and basket-weave panels.

Precision From Subfloor to Finish

Pattern floors live or die on the set-out. We confirm the subfloor is flat, sound and dry, establish accurate working lines, then lay each block to a tight tolerance — small errors multiply across a pattern. Boards are acclimatised first, fixed with the right adhesive system for the subfloor, then sanded with multi-direction technique and finished to your chosen colour and sheen.

Solid or Engineered

We install both solid parquetry blocks and engineered herringbone/chevron, choosing to suit your subfloor — engineered over a slab, solid over a timber subfloor.

Parquetry & Herringbone Installation FAQ

Herringbone, chevron, mosaic/finger block, and decorative Versailles and basket-weave panels.

Yes — we sand with multi-direction technique and finish on site to your chosen colour and sheen.

Yes — engineered herringbone suits a slab, while solid blocks suit a timber subfloor; we choose to match your subfloor.

The set-out is exacting — small errors multiply across the pattern — and finishing requires specialist multi-direction sanding.

Critical — it must be flat, sound and dry before laying, or the pattern won’t sit true.
