Solid Timber Floor Installation in Melbourne

A solid hardwood floor is a floor for generations — it can be sanded and refinished many times over its life. At Iconic Flooring we install solid timber flooring across Melbourne, with the acclimatisation, subfloor prep and expansion detailing that stop a floor cupping or gapping down the track.

The Species We Install

Australian hardwoods each bring their own colour and hardness — warm Blackbutt, dramatic Spotted Gum, pale Tasmanian Oak, rich Jarrah and Brushbox. We’ll help you choose based on the look you want, the room’s traffic and how the colour sits with your light.

Done Right From the Subfloor Up

  • Acclimatisation — boards are left to adjust to your home’s humidity (typically 72 hours or more) before we lay a single one, so they’re at equilibrium with the room.
  • Subfloor check — solid timber suits a timber subfloor or battens/ply over joists; we confirm it’s sound, level and dry first.
  • Nail-fixing in the traditional way, with correct expansion gaps at the perimeter so the floor can move with the seasons.
  • Sand and finish on site to your chosen colour and sheen.

Why Solid Timber?

Beyond the look, the big advantage is longevity: a solid floor can be sanded six-to-eight times across its life, so it can be refreshed and re-coloured for decades. It’s the choice for a long-term family home or a period property on stumps.
